Good news. Anyone attempting to access Musa Okwonga’s blog at ‘Because I’m Not That Smart’ will have noticed it no longer exists. This isn’t the good news though obviously. The good news is that it’s only moved. Where? I’ll let you knwo as soon as I have a new URL from the man himself.
In other news…I was lucky enough to catch Benin City, the band comprised of Musa (voc), Joshua (voc), Stewart (sax), Theo (drums) and Jon (bass) once more last night. They simply electrified an at first merely intrigued audience, opening at the Macbeth in Hoxton for Kid British. Soon sheer beat, sax, bass and vocal brilliance (as a visual metaphor) had people grooving, jumping, whooping and getting down so hard that by the time the half-hour set was up, I was as tired form watching everyone else as I was from attempting to get my own groove on. Yes, they were good.
Kid British took the stage, and there’s not alot I can add to what’s already been said about the Manchester based band who derscribe themselves as sounding like ‘The Sun Coming Out’. Not a bad description, but take a look at the influences on their myspace profile and then have a little listen. Superb, quite unlike anything I’ve heard enough to make them unique. Very listenable, great hooks, cool vocals, few minor chords, and good vibes rock from the amps when they’re in full-flow. Well worth seeing if you get the chance.
I thought I might a little piece today on the subject of ‘do we really try?’. But I’ll leave that for later. Probably tomorrow now, so keep checking back for more ramblings from the man tapping these keys.
Best as always guys and gals,
Kevin
