The eagle-eyed among you wonderful people who occasionally spend some of your time here, will notice there’s now a big 350 on the top right of the blog. It’s there because it’s the logo for www.350.org, the international campaign committed to ‘building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis’. And it’s there because I believe the organisation has a very real issue at the heart of its concerns. It’s also there to show my support for the organisation’s message in the days leading up to (and indeed, the days after) the United Nations’s climate change conference, which you can read more about here.
Now, I can’t preach. I don’t have a car, but I’m sure as hell not the greatest person on the planet when it comes to a carbon footprint, understanding renewable energy or really having previously paid much attention to the fact that global climate change needs to be taken seriously. But I’m trying to educate myself, and in any case it’s fairly obvious that we are this planet’s main CO2 threat, despite the fact that people seem to ignore it, and it’s fairly obvious to me that extreme weather is increasing and the seasons more and more are losing shape. I’m not one for falling for, creating or promoting hysteria, but the situations seem pretty serious when images like this show the effect this is having on the planet in very visual terms:

But as I’ve said, my support for 350 rides tandem with my increasing self-education. And thanks to them, and some extra reading, that education is finally taking shape. So, if you feel inclined to boost your own, you could do worse than to click the logo and spend some time reading up.
Cheers, Kev.
