Early post this Wednesday as I know it’s going to be a busy day.

This week’s YouTube pick is exactly as the title here suggests. Again, if you have Spotify, I’d urge you to listen to this on there as well, as the BBC Radio1 LiveLounge version I’m posting here sounds a little different/more raw/better/worse than the album version.

It’s a cracking track regardless, and as the opening one on the new album, All Night Cinema, marks a fine return from the man who brought us Starz In Their Eyes. The lyrics, if you are interested in them (and I was, as they are both simple and brilliantly arranged), are:

Click here to view the embedded video.

The facts and the figures,
They overwhelm and stifle,
everything that you thought you knew.

The facts and the figures
They overwhelm and stifle,
from the very first breath you drew

The facts and the figures
They overwhelm and stifle

(Repeat on Canon)

everything that you thought you knew.
and the petty decisions that you think make a difference.
So tiny that they blow away like dust

So tiny that they blow away like dust

(Canon)
Embers, embers, embers
Through all of the devilish things we do,
( I cant help my stupid hope )
Through all of the devilish things we do,
(It’s always with me)

The facts and the figures,
They overwhelm a stifle,
everything that you thought you knew
So tiny that they blow away like dust

(Embers, embers, embers …) (Canon)
So tiny that they blow away like dust

We are all embers
from the same fire
We are all embers
from the same fire
We are all embers
from the same fire
We are all embers
from the same fire
We are all embers
from the same fire

Anyhow, enjoy!

It’s Thursday, but this song is good for any day really. James Yuill’s No Surprise (Earth Version). I read in the paper today that the recession is over in the UK, that the crunch is slowly expanding, but at the same time an 88 year old American shot a guard (who was only doing his job and later died) in the Holocaust Museum, Washington D.C. At the same time, Swine Flu could officially be a pandemic by the time you read this.

The thing is, we need to just take stock, chill out, not worry too much and do what needs to be done. There are things that need to be done, and there are people that can do them. Anyway…

Click here to view the embedded video.

Me? Well I didn’t vote for the BNP in the European elections (and for an excellent piece on how that party won 2 seats, see Ross Burton’s piece on that), I’m working on a ‘serious’ poetry collection, and I’m entering poetry competitions with the hope of writing some words some people like.

That’s it really. Oh, and good song eh?

Wondered what music it is? It’s Madcon’s remix of Frankie Valli’s Beggin‘, off of Madcon’s So Dark The Con of Man album (available from Amazon as an mp3 album [no DRM] for only £4.99 incidentally). Here it is but you might also want to check out Liar and Back On The Road both of which are pretty fresh:

Ok, ok, it’s ice skating, but that is Mr Valli singing it I believe.

So there you have it, YouTube knows all…clearly, but what’s most important here is the development of the song/lyrics and the changing of context. Really interesting I reckon.

I love a bit of Lost Prophets. Perhaps it’s the fact that the Welsh Nu-Metal outfit hit the scene at the height of my awkward, teenage angst-ridden years (not that there was much angst at all), or perhaps it’s just because I love a good rock-out every now and then. Whatever the reason, I’ve spent much of today listening to Lost Prophets’ tracks on YouTube (because www.Deezer.com [incidentally, good for parties] doesn’t have any of the albums) and came across the band’s biggest ever hit – mainly because it’s the best song they’ve ever written, and in spite of the fact they’re still together they’ll never surpass it (that’s a fact, but only in my opinion).

Anyway, ladies and gentleman visiting my humble ablogode, here it is for your listening pleasure. (N.B: As good as it is, this song is actually a lot longer than it needs to be . If someone in the studio cut out the middle, the slice of genius represented by the track pre- 0:56 and post-2:28 would be more exponentially more efficient as a classic track ;)
