YouTube Pick Of The Week – ’4 Chords’ by The Axis Of Awesome

without comments

I’ve always thought that people are particularly drawn to certain chord sequences, scales and pitches. It’s obvious that music stimulates the brain and, therefore, the most popular songs manage to stimulate the most brains. Something like that. I think you get the point. As a species we’re very sensitive to sound, and our love of music and all things audibly rhythmic…err…is obvious.

So I think that’s enough pre-amble then for this week’s YouTube Pick of The Week. I’m no kind of socio/cultural psychologist, hearing specialist or, frankly, even really a musician, but the clip you are about to see and hear is both scary and genius. It’s a perfect example of how certain sounds stimulate us, and of how many of us have paid time and time again to own the same piece of music in different clothes! No more delay:

…and if anyone is wondering, the chord sequence is E major, B major, C# minor, A major. Shifted down the scale it’s also C major, G major, A minor, F major.
